Rice Cooker - My Rice Is Burnt And Sticks To The Bottom
It may be due to a few reasons:
Reason | Solution |
---|---|
Stainless steel inner pot It is normal for rice to stick to any other pots more easily other than non-stick pots, since rice is a sticky substance. |
Wash and soak the rice beforehand to remove some of the starch that causes stickiness. Put a little oil into the rice to ensure it won't stick as much. |
Non-stick inner pot Yes, even for non-stick pots, rice can sometimes still stick to it, because rice itself is a sticky substance. |
Wash and soak the rice beforehand to remove some of the starch that causes stickiness. Put a little oil into the rice to ensure it won't stick as much. |
Keep warm for too long If the rice is kept warm for an extended period of time, all the water from the rice will evaporate, and the bottom rice will start to get burnt. |
Monitor the keep warm time of your rice cooker and do not let it keep warm for too long. |
Wrong rice to water ratio If there's a lot of rice but only a little water, the water may runs out during the process of cooking, and the rice underneath will start to get burnt. |
Add the correct rice to water ratio, about 1:2. |
Generally, since the rice at the bottom is closer to the heat source, it cooks faster than the rice at the top. So while your rice at the top may be cooked just nicely, the rice at the bottom will be a little overcooked.
If any of the solutions above is not very effective, but your rice only burnt just a little bit (light brown), it is perfectly normal.
